Not an Accident [Thomas, Don]

Thomas nodded, then opened it up and handed it to Haylen

Shannon looked at Lilyana, "Hello, who are you?" she asked in reply

I took it and then read it. Once I was done reading I looked up at Thomas.
"She tells her story. She obviously knew she was in danger. Those are the names of people she met in Germany and who had dealings with Lilyana's father. Those are mostly living here." I told him. "She was going to come forward and get her daughter back."


"I'm Lilyana Hermann. I'm waiting for Haylen and Mr. Kelly to return." she said.

Thomas nodded in reply, "Is she in danger?" he asked


Shannon nodded a bit, "I see you met my husband." she replied

"Lilyana... only if her dad finds she was at the lab, talking to me. I'm not sure he knows that she knows something about this." I said and sighed a little. "She wrote this in case she died and she's asking me to keep her daughter safe and...."



Lilyana smiled a little when Shannon said that. "I have. And your daughters." she replied a little more confident now.

"And what?" Thomas asked as he watched her


Shannon smiled a bit, "I see you go to the same school as them."

"She's sorry for not telling me about it." I said, keeping my tears inside. I looked down and put the letter back into the envelope.


Lilyana nodded.
"They're my only friends here."

Thomas nodded, seeing the pain Haylen was in, he reached out and gently took her hand


Shannon smiled a bit, then sat with her, "I can be a friend of yours." she replied

I looked up with a small smile when he did.
"Anything else?" I asked quietly, hoping he found something else.


Lilyana smiled at Shannon and nodded a little. "I would like that." she said.

"No, thats all" Thomas replied, he looked around again, then stood up


Shannon smiled at the girl, then looked at her school book, "Math?" she asked

I nodded and then got up as well. I still was a little rattled about this all, but for now I had keep myself in check, though I knew that I could trust Thomas and was glad it was him here with me. I took a deep breath and looked around once again, my mind now started picturing my best friend in the room.



Lilyana looked up and nodded with a smile.
"I love it. Am one of the best in my class." she said proudly.

Thomas looked around the room as well, then back at Haylen


Shannon smiled, "I loved it too" she replied

The image faded and snapped out of my thoughts, looking at Thomas.
"Sorry." I offered quietly.


Lilyana smiled at Shannon. "I want to be a profiler when I am big. You know, like that guy in 'Numbers'." she replied.

Thomas nodded to Haylen, "Its okay lass" he said softly


Shannon nodded in reply, "Thats amazing" she replied, "What made you want to do that?" she asked

I looked at Thomas and tried a small smile. "I thought with the years passing it'll get easier, but it still gets to me..." I said quietly.

Lilyana looked at Shannon with sparkling eyes, her pen on the table as she was talking to Shannon. "It fascinates me how they catch bad guys with just using maths."

Thomas reached out and took Haylen's hand when she said that


Shannon nodded, "You seem to be the right lass for the job." she replied

And that was the moment I lost the battle with myself. I couldn't do anything as my eyes watered and I just looked down. I actually hated to show this side of me to anyone.
"I miss her so bad..." I said quietly, trying to look up and not to cry.


Lilyana smiled at Shannon. "Really? You're the first one to tell me." she said happily.

Thomas nodded, "She is always with you Haylen" he replied gently


"Really" Shannon replied, "Your a smart girl" she added

I took a deep breath and nodded slighly. "I know." I said and whiped my tears away, though it didn't really help much.

Lilyana smiled. "Thank you Mrs. Kelly." she replied proudly.

Thomas nodded, then let go of her hand and walked to the door


Shannon smiled, "Your most welcome" she replied

I tried a small smile as I slowly followed him out of the room and down the stairs, once again my mind was filled with memories.


Lilyana smiled happily. "Mrs. Kelly? Do you know Haylen, well, too?" she then asked.

I continued to browse the file when I saw something intresting, several witness state a black BMW driving around the area soon after the crash, so I made a call to Haylen to inform her of this.

The owner of the house was just locking it behind me and Thomas when my phone rang. I stopped in front of the car and answered.
"Hey Don. Found something interesting?" I asked as I answered the phone.

"Well, we have several witness state a black BMW arrived at the scene multiple times then left agian, on of the mmen in the car had a gun, or did he, this was all I got from witness statements."

I was surprised to hear about the gun and wondered. Back then, when Lily died, I wasn't working as a detective, but I was working at the lab, though I didn't hear about any investigations.
"Did someone investigate those guys seen at the scene? Because as far as I remember no one said anything about that guy." I replied.

Thomas listened in on the conversation


Shannon nodded, "I do" she replied, "Her and I worked many cases togeather."
