Not an Accident [Thomas, Don]

Thomas nodded, impressed with Lilyana, "Could you make out what they said?"

"They were talking German and mostly about guns. The type of guns they wanted to sell. One man was called Greg." Lilyana replied and thought for a moment. "They said that ther was a ship coming to New York, tonight, a yacht, I think. That's where the deal should happen tomorrow at midnight."

Thomas nodded, then looked at Haylen after she finished

I looked at Thomas and then at Lilyana.
She pulled a letter out of her back and handed it to me.
"I found this a while ago together with my birth certifacte. It says that mom knew about dad's dealings. She wanted me to know that she was forced to leave me behind and act like I never existed." she said and made a sad face, her eyes watering a little. I took the letter and started to read, seeing my best friend's handwriting made me want to cry as well, but I swallowed it down for now.

Thomas watched the two, then stood up from his chair

I looked up at him, knowing he could see through me most of the time. I finished reading the letter and then looked at Lilyana.
"Thank you for coming to see me, Lilyana." I said and she nodded.
"I think Lily was somehow wrapped in all this. He kept her daughter to keep her quiet when she returned from Germany." I said and sighed. "I'm just curious... how did you find me?"
"Two girls in my class said they know you. They're my only friends here right now." she said.

I walked by and heard the conversation so I walked in.

I looked up at Don as he entered and then back at Lilyana.
"They are really nice girls." she added and I then looked at Thomas, guessing who she met.

Thomas nodded to Haylen when she looked at him, "Who are these girls?" he asked Lilyana, having a good idea himself

Lilyana looked at us and then smiled a bit.
"Erin and Colleen." she said with some pride in her voice and I smiled at her.
"Well, you definitely have good friends then." I said to her.
She smiled and nodded and then looked at Thomas. "Do you know them, too?" she asked them, not knowing she was talking to her friend's father.

Thomas smiled a bit, "I'm their father" he told her as he sat back down

Lilyana smiled a little embarassed.
"I didn't know that." she said in a shy tone. "It's nice to meet you Mr. Kelly." she then added.

Thomas smiled abit again, "Its nice to meet you as well." he replied

I absently looked at Thomas, thinking about something I read in the letter and it was obvious that something was bothering me.

Thomas looked at her, "Haylen, what is it?" he asked

I snapped out of thoughts.
"I'm just thinking 'bout something... you know, Lily was killed in a car crash and there was always the possibilty that it wasn't a simple accident." I said quietly, hardly keeping my emotions in check right now. "Maybe she didn't want to be so far from her daughter anymore. What she wrote for Lilyana sounds like she knew enough to put them away for a long time."

Thomas nodded in reply, "Did she have a home here?" he asked

"Yeah. She was in Germany only for studying." I said to him. "But I don't believe we'll get much from there. It's probably sold by now." I added on a sad note.

"Maybe, maybe not" Thomas replied as he stood up and went to the computer

I sighed a little and looked at Lilyana, who watched us with a curious face.

Thomas used what he knew about Lily to see if he could find out were she lived

"You could have just asked me, Thomas." I said quietly as I walked over to him. "She lived in 168 West 78 Street" I added. "It's a small town house."
Actually I felt a little bad now that I didn't tell him before.

Thomas looked at her, then nodded, "Thank you Haylen" he replied

I nodded and then looked at Lilyana.
"Since you already ran from your home, I guess you won't wanna go back... " I said looking at looking at her as she shook her head.
"But I know he'll find me and if he does, I know he'll be very mad at me." she said, actually sounding scared.

Thomas looked at the two, then back at the screen, "Looks like the place hasn't been sold yet." he said out loud
