| Prologue
[Enter the Chorus]
Stanza 1
CHORUS Voice enchantress what art thou come to announce the cited dazzling gold to our king pure brilliance? Torn by terror, remit with fear, I fear before thee, O God of litanies! What new debt or renewed during the circle of seasons, you make me pay tell me, daughter of Hope golden immortal words?
Stanza 2
CHORUS Agony without numbers, alas! Overwhelm me, the damage extends to my whole people, and minds are unarmed to find a remedy. Our glorious land does not swell more crops, more women give birth: it is more their pain, their cries ... The dying one after another dent ! Like a flock of birds moving away to pull wings are swept by a blast more powerful than the fire toward the edges inexorably kingdom or sinks.
Stanza 3
CHORUS These losses without depleting the number cited, we leave without tears, without pity, the bodies lying on the soil or spread it to death. But the wives, mothers begging with gray hair on one side, the other screaming their tears! An inferno of flames and litanies of acute tears through it with their complaints ...
Stanza 4
CHORUS To attack us today, has the ferocious killer sword or armor. It's a fire just biting us, and our cries are her procession ... The wrong way! It turns bride! He returns to the borders of the country! It runs to sink into the immensity of the sea or into the waves, or a port does not shelter! When the weary night, the day just completed the work of death!
Stanza 5
CHORUS Then two houses, one another and equal in dignity, tear again for old quarrels sullying their hands with the blood they are running. The fatal bowels of these breeds Ra-vales, two lovers are born under an unlucky star. Their unfortunate fall as much as pathetic. Bury their dead with the old hatreds. The course has a love for death, the hereditary hatred that are devoted parents, only extinguished by the death of children. Will occupy our stage, and if you lend an ear, try our zeal to erase the facts.
[Exit Chorus, beginning of the play] |
